Indonesian monkey species back from the dead Jan. 20 - Scientists have just released images of Millers' Grizzled Langur, an Indonesian monkey species thought until recently, to be extinct. An international team of researchers found a colony of the animals in a remote corner of northeast Borneo, an area never known to support the species. Ben Gruber reports.
Italian researchers see clean-up potential in oil slick robot Jan. 19 - Fears of a possible environmental catastrophe caused by the Costa Concordia grounding, have rallied oil clean-up companies from across Europe to offer their services in the event of an oil spill from the vessel into the Mediterranean. But it's not just those companies who are watching events unfold. One group of scientists further along the coast see potential for the deployment of their newly-developed robotic catamaran, designed to identify dangerous chemicals in water. Jim Drury reports.

Coal mining returns to Britain - without the miners Jan. 17 - A British company plans to mine an estimated one billion tonnes of coal hidden deep underground on the Welsh coast by using a gasification technique pioneered a century ago in what was then the Soviet Union. Captive Sumatran rhino romance may be last hope for species Jan. 16 - The hopes for an entire species may rest on a captive breeding program and two Sumatran rhinos at a sanctuary in Malaysia. The Sumatran rhino is not only the world's smallest rhinoceros, it is also one of the rarest with deforestation and poaching having decimated its population in the wild. Rob Muir reports.
Pint-sized pick up from Smart debuts in Detroit Jan. 13 - Smart, the Daimler AG-owned manufacturer of pint-sized urban vehicles, is trying to sell America on its latest creation, a tiny convertible truck called the Smart "for-us" pick-up, now on display at the Detroit Auto Show. As a concept car, the all-electric vehicle is not commercially available but could appear in showrooms if the company believes there's sufficient interest. Andrew Schmertz reports.
